“Injecting collagen isn’t the only way to a plump pout. With the help of LUXit beauty expert, Holly Walker, we’ve put together some expert tips for making your lips appear fuller and younger.
1. Stay hydrated and protected
Ensure you sip on water throughout the day to prevent dry lips and seal in that moisture with a soothing lip balm. If you don’t have one that you swear by, try Paula’s Choice Lip and Body Balm. Don’t forget to apply a layer at night to wake up to soft lips!
2. Layer your products
Find a lip liner and matching cream lipstick that is close to your natural lip colour. Line your lips first and make sure to fill your Cupid’s Bow to enhance the appearance of your lips. Finish with a thin layer of your lipstick, and tap gloss into the centre of your lips for some voluminous shine.
3. Choose the right shade
Former chemist and beauty author, Lana King, stresses that the colour you choose to wear on your lips makes all the difference. “As you age, you lose definition in your lips, so to appear more youthful, you’ll want to wear a lipstick that adds fullness. A dark colour does just the opposite, making your lips look smaller, less plump, and less highlighted. Instead, choose something in a mauve or pink tone.” She also advises not to be afraid of a bit of shine. “Adding a layer of gloss is helpful as well. Many women feel like they are too old to wear lip gloss, but a shiny finish will actually add a youthful plumpness.”
4. Be wary of quick-fixes
You might read about cinnamon lip scrubs that advertise instantly fuller lips, however these treatments rely on irritants like cinnamon or menthol to make the lips swell (your body’s way of protecting itself!) and long term this will lead to chapped lips and break down collagen.
5. Use safe, practical tools
If you’re curious about a lip-plumping tool, you can try the range of Fullips devices. This small, plastic tool creates a suction seal and encourages blood flow in your lips. Hold on your lips for 10 to 15 seconds and release and you’ll notice a safe, temporary full pout. Great for a wedding or another special occasion, if you’re game to try something new.
Remember that it’s easy to play with makeup to create the shape of lips you most desire, and always keep your lips cared for!”
